Why this
program?

Held on a Friday and a Saturday morning from 9:00am to 11:30am and is suitable for young learners with their parent or guardian/career.

The Bold Park Community School Wilderness Playgroup connects our young members and their families with nature by basing this experience entirely in an outdoor environment. The children engage in imaginative, creative and scientific play through a nature-rich environment.

Our Wildspace

From the beginning, learning out in nature has played a leading role in the Bold Park approach.

Whether it is climbing to the top of a hill, damming a flowing creek, playing in mud or engaging in creative encounters with natural materials – our young members forge a relationship with nature which stays with them forever.

The nature and outdoor setting of the playgroup not only challenges parents to trust their children but also helps them to see and value the lessons which nature offers.

    2009

Kiah grew up on a Western Australian wheat farm and loves working outdoors. She is passionate about the importance of offering children the opportunity to form a connection with the natural environment, especially in the early years, as a foundation for lifelong wellbeing and resilience.

Kiah first heard glowing reports of Bold Park Community School from her lecturers at Murdoch University whilst completing a Graduate Diploma in Education. As her own children began their educational journeys at Bold Park she embraced opportunities to participate in the school community, first as a parent, then as an intern and in 2010 as a teacher in the Primary School and Coordinator of the Wilderness Playgroup. A love of working with the youngest children in our school community motivated Kiah to undertake postgraduate studies allowing her to specialise in Early Childhood education.

Kiah’s teaching practice is enriched by previous careers in the film and television industry and as a yoga teacher. In her teaching, she seeks to inspire the physical, social-emotional and cognitive growth of each child whilst working in close partnership with families to support transition.

Kiah has a deep respect for place-based learning and the Reggio Approach, integral to the school’s teaching and learning philosophy, and seeks to deepen her understanding through ongoing research.
