Class Parent Representatives

Each class at Bold Park Community has parent representatives who help with information flow and communictions by liaising with staff and parents, distributing information and helping to organise events. This is a very important role that helps our community to thrive.

Here’s a brief outline of some of the work done by class reps:

Information Flow

Ensures a flow of information from the school to the parents and from the parents to the school – all of school events – picnics, parties, conferences through to more class specific news. Communication by email/ flier to take home/ word of mouth/ flier on noticeboard in classroom or in parent communication books – whatever works for your group.

Promote Reggio Emilia Knowledge

Class reps are a good starting point for parents [especially new parents] looking for more information about Reggio Emilia philosophies and practice. We’ll provide you with this information [you don’t have to be an ‘expert’!].

Social Aspect

Class reps may coordinate a social get-together outside school hours. Different classes and age groups have different needs – it might be getting together for coffee, plays in Kings Park , soccer games, parent dinners… Of course this isn’t the sole responsibility of the class rep, but can be useful to get the ball rolling, especially in the early childhood classes where parents are new to the school. Class reps can play a valuable role helping to introduce new families joining the class after the start of the school year.

Classroom Administration

Our teachers appreciate a hand from time to time with a number of tasks such as distributing fliers. Collecting family contact information and maintaining and distributing the class contact list is a crucial role generally undertaken by class reps.

Work with teachers to organise class meetings and information nights.

Organisation of School Events

This is on an as needs basis. Last year we provided some adult assistance to the Theory Busters (9 – 11 year olds) to set up the entertainment for the Christmas Party. We organised and ran the Annimac evening.

What do you need to be a class rep?

It’s useful for class reps to be at school on a regular basis at pick-up and/or drop-off times so that you are available to other parents at school. Access to email is not essential but extremely advantageous as a speedy communication tool. The ability to attend two meetings per term. Meetings are generally held during school hours at school. Pre- kindy and kindy class reps may meet separately at times more suitable to their needs and report back to the larger group.

Our school community is a rich resource – not only for our children but for ourselves as well as partners in this learning journey. Being a class rep introduces you to and involves you in the wider school community. Everyone who embraces the role comments on the positive benefits gained from the experience.
